Hi there, and thank you for popping by and joining me on my art journey!
My aim is to connect with you visually through my artistic expression, and evoke an emotional response, or allow a memory to be relived and cherished. Let me tell you a little more about myself first.
Im Heidi Louise Messer, ( aka Heidi Lulu) a former art teacher, mother of a strong minded little man (named Loki Kai), and ‘artist in the making’ for many years now.
Born in Brisbane and raised in Queensland Australia, my last few decades were managing art stores and being a local High School Art teacher here on the Sunshine Coast both at Mt Creek and Meridan State School.
I decided on a change to venture out into the big, bad and exciting world to live and work overseas. Living overseas for nearly 7 years, originally as an Art Teacher but later to push the nomadic lifestyle and digital world. Firstly starting in Asia basing myself in China for 2 years, then onto Vietnam and the beatufil Saigon region. From here i had a break from teaching to travel more into the noirthern hemisphere, heading my way to Canada, USA, and Mexico to follow my heart. I believe I have travelled close to 30 countries....so far.......but there is definitely more places to explore!!
Currently I'm home again residing on the Sunshine Coast Queensland, after lastly living in Mexico and having my son born in San Jose, Baja California.
I absolutely adore the Sunshine Coast, and believe I am so lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world! Im inspired by nature, sound, people, places and human emotions. I need daily doses of being outside otherwise my mind closes down.
My artwork focuses in areas of acrylic paints, pastels, charcoal and pencil, however i have been delving into oils this last year and learning the techniques involved in this incredible medium of late., and I think i can fairly say now its my new favourite medium! As a creative, I am constantly a student to my passion.
I enjoy painting people, characters, and places, in not only acrylics or oils, I also work in charcoal, pastel and coloured pencil. All of which are of course relative to my experiences, emotions, mood and my creative flow!
I love using vibrant, bright bold colours that strike our eyes, and play with line, shapes and tone when creating. The use of blending the medium or choice and developing a real flow to my work is something I'm constantly working on whilst my stylised artwork comes into fruition. Then I also have a body of work that shows off the charcoal figures and more of a monochromatic or sepia toned artworks. I love the contrast of these styles from my paintings!

My hope is that my artworks make you smile, spark a memory of happiness or take you away for a short yet beautiful moment. For me its the simple things in life, shared amongst quality humans that make me tick.
